Kampong Cham Provincial Governor Gives Warning to Officials Regarding Corrupt Activities

KAMPONG CHAM: The Governor of Kampong Cham province, Un Chanda, has said that he would not tolerate corrupt officials who use tricks to withhold documents in order to demand benefits from people taking the service. He warned that the officials who are found to be engaged in such activities would be arrested and sent to the Anti-Corruption Unit.

According to a publication from the Kampong Cham Provincial Information Department, during the 34th Ordinary Meeting of the 3rd Mandate of the Provincial Council on the morning of Thursday, 10 March, Governor Un Chanda confirmed that the total population of Kampong Cham is approximately more than one million people, therefore, there are a lot of civil status documents that need to be registered and produced at the national level. In the past, the Kampong Cham provincial administration received an insufficient amount of civil status documents, causing many communes to face some shortcomings, including a small number of officials who would stockpile and withhold documents in exchange for the benefits.

He confirmed to the chairman of the provincial council, Khlot Phorn, that he would take legal action to arrest any found corrupt officials and send them to the Anti-Corruption Unit.

Governor Un Chanda's warning comes after remarks made by the Provincial Councilor, Kao Chesta, on the information that the Provincial Council received regarding a case where an official did not release the documents to local residents in Batheay district, Kampong Cham Province.
