Long lines of cars formed on the roads leading out of the capital Kyiv on Thursday ,February 24, after Russian forces invaded the country by land, air and sea, confirming the worst fears of the West with the biggest attack by one state against another in Europe since World War Two.

"I will take my children away and return, we will fight this off , Ukraine will win, no matter what," Aleksander, one of the drivers heading out of Kyiv with kis kids at the back of the car has said.

"We hoped it will not happen. It is unthinkable that a sane man would make such a decision," Sergey, has said adding he felt confused and horrible when he realised the country was bing invaded.

Despite pessimism, most has remained defiant.

"The Russian Federation will not stop what they have started... they will do whatever they can to destroy us and our nation but we will not let them do it," a passenger in one of the cars said.

Russian missiles have rained down on Ukrainian cities. Ukraine reported columns of troops pouring across its borders into the eastern Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Luhansk regions, and landing by sea at the port cities of Odessa and Mariupol in the south.

Explosions could be heard before dawn in the capital Kyiv. Gunfire rattled, sirens blared across the city and the highway out became choked with traffic as residents tried to flee.

Ukraine's President Volodymur Zelenskiy has said Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin's aim was to destroy his state.

California Truckers Head to Washington to Protest Coronavirus Restrictions

A group of American truckers began a cross-country drive from California to Washington on Wednesday,February 23, to protest coronavirus restrictions, taking a cue from demonstrations that have paralyzed Canada's capital city, Ottawa, for weeks.

More than two dozen 18-wheeler trucks, along with some 50 pickups and recreational vehicles, left Adelanto, California, about 130 kilometres northeast of Los Angeles. The self-styled 'People's Convoy' is beginning an 11-day trek to the Beltway, a major highway encircling the U.S. capital, to demand an end to COVID-19 vaccine and mask requirements.

Preparations are being made in Washington for the expected arrival of the convoy and other similar protests in the coming days. The Pentagon said it had approved 400 National Guard troops from the District of Columbia, who would not carry weapons, to help at traffic posts from Saturday through March 7.

About 50 tactical vehicles were also approved to be placed at traffic posts. In addition, up to 300 National Guard troops from outside of Washington will assist at traffic posts if needed.

The truckers are making their demands even as most U.S. states have already eased many restrictions. In California, where the convoy begins, the state lifted universal mask requirements last week while requiring masks for vaccinated people only in high-risk areas such as public transit, schools and healthcare settings.
