More Than 90,000 Immigrants with Permanent Residence Cards in Cambodia, Most of Them Vietnamese

PHNOM PENH: Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Por Pheak has said that 89,786 foreigners, including 89,491 Vietnamese, have applied for permanent residency and 42,824 women, equivalent to about 99 percent of the total number of cards requested.

During the meeting to review the work results of 2021 and work direction 2022 of the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday morning, 23 February 2022, Mr. Por Pheak s has said that the work of immigration management in Cambodia as of the closing date 30 June 2019 Management of Immigrants in Cambodia Campaign for the Census and Confiscation of Irregular Administrative Documents There are 89,491 Vietnamese nationals, 42,824 females.

He has added that the ministry had issued permanent residency permits for 65,158 people over the age of 18, and issued 19,561 biennial renewal cards, extending 15,933 for the first time 3,567 people in the third time, 52 people and 9 people in the fourth time.

The ministry has also stated that according to the research on the issuance of permanent residence permits, it was found that there was a total of 9,924 immigrants who did not renew their validity, including 1,178 in 2018, 1,288 in 2019 and 844 in 2020, 6,614 in 2012.

The General Department of Immigration is taking measures to encourage them to comply with the law in accordance with Sub-Decree No. 129 of the Royal Government of Cambodia on the cancellation and confiscation of irregular administrative documents held by foreigners and set up an information technology system to manage people's documents.

In 2021, the police has cracked down on 667 illegal border crossings, 4,333 people of 8 nationalities, including 3,794 deportees through international gates.
