BREAKING NEWS: PM Says In Areas with Large Muslim Population Must Have a Muslim Deputy Governor

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen calls on Cambodian-born Muslims to strengthen the capacity of those who can lead in areas with a large Muslim population, should have at least one deputy governor or district governor.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2021 work review meeting and the 2022 work direction of the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday, 24 February, Prime Minister Hun Sen has said: "For example, there are problems in areas where there are many Muslims. To make it easier to resolve, it must have Muslim officials there…. But they have to be qualified to do the job."

He has stated that there is an amendment to the law to increase the number of seats for the Board of Governors of the provinces, municipalities, districts and Commune, which gives the opportunity for Cambodian-Muslims to work as officials and easy to communicate in the community.

He has also stated that this is not a quota, but this is a policy and has called on the Muslims to strengthen their capacity, not just positions.
