Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner Urges All Units to Quickly Test for Covid-19

PHNOM PENH: The Phnom Penh Municipal Police has ordered its subordinate units to start conducting rapid tests on their officers, and if any test positive, it is recommended to undergo further PCR testing. The Phnom Penh Municipal Police stresses that it is necessary to find and send positive cases to be treated according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health, and to continue to monitor the condition of police officials until their recover.

In the instruction released on Monday, 21 February, the Phnom Penh Municipal Police stated that this these measures, by order of the Deputy Commissioner, are to protect the life and sustainability of the work of the Police Commission as Covid-19 continues to spread in the community. The logistics and financial work plan listed in the instruction includes the purchase of rapid antigen test kits, medicine, alcohol sanitizer and disinfectants, to distribute supply to units at risk and in need.

The Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner added, "The head of the unit was mobilized by donors supporting the purchase of rapid test equipment, spraying equipment, disinfectants and alcohol [sanitizer], facemasks, PPE suits, and medicine, all donated to provide to officers in units based on needs."

In addition to these measures, the Phnom Penh Municipal Police has also ordered all units to prepare alcohol and gel disinfectant to put at the entrance of the workplace, reduce meetings, divide work shifts, maintain proper health measures and report daily updates to the General Commissioner of the National Police for information and recommendations.
