China FM On Ukraine : Minsk Agreement 'Only Way Out'

INTERNATIONAL: Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi says; "NATO was a product of the Cold War era. And now we need to look at the current situation and there needs to be adaptation to NATO. If there is a persistent easternwards expansion, will that really guarantee peace in Europe? Will that truly lead to lasting peace and stability in Europe? I believe that this is a question that our friends in Europe need to have serious consideration about."

On Saturday,February 19, Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called the Minsk Agreement the "only way out" for resolving the Ukraine situation, and he has said Ukraine should not be a front-line for competition among major powers.

Speaking to a security conference via videolink, Wang has said all parties should sit down to have in-depth discussion, and come up with a road map and timetable for implementation of the Minsk Agreement.

He has also called NATO a "product of the Cold War" and reminded its member states to reconsider taking on new members in Eastern Europe.

The sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of any country should be respected and safeguarded, Wang said.
