Phnom Penh : Ministry of Interior issued a press release on May 24, 2021, on the implementation of the duties and responsibilities of the Ministry of Interior after a small number of civil society organizations and citizens requested the Ministry of Interior (MoI) to take legal action on crimes and misconduct by wealthy individuals and public officials in the past.

Ministry of Interior spokesperson informed that as a law enforcement agency, the MoI always pays attention to the implementation of roles, duties, and responsibilities without discrimination against any person in the society or any crime to strive to maintain security, public order, and social security for the nation and the people and contributing to a sustainable socio-economic development.

The spokesperson goes ahead noting that in 2020, despite the situation of the Covid-19 disease, the competent authorities and law enforcement forces continued to work hard. As a result, 2,940 criminal cases were sent to court, 4,227 people were convicted, including 280 cases of rape.
