Korean President Say Cambodia is priority in boosting economy and relations

Korea: The President of the Republic of Korea, Moon Jae-In, welcomed the presence of Prime Minister Hun Sen in South Korea at this time and highlighted the relationship between the two countries, which he hopes will continue to work together. He said that Cambodia is a priority for Korea to help as well as provide cooperation.

Addressing the meeting with the Cambodian Prime Minister at the Presidential Palace, Moon Jae-In stressed that Cambodia is a priority for Korea, especially with regard to the signing of a free trade agreement, and Cambodia is the first country that Korea has signed. He said that Cambodia and Korea have worked closely together and have cooperated well.

In response, PM Hun Sen thanked Mr. Moon Jae-In for meeting with him again.

The Premier emphasized that since He is the co-founder of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Korea and this year is the 25th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations between the two countries, he said that our two countries should organize the activities to celebrate the anniversary of diplomatic relations to strengthen cooperation as well as better relations.

In addition, PM also requested the Korean side to expedite the ratification of the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement to enter into force. He also urged Korea to support the industry in Cambodia, especially the processing industry, and increase investment.

Prime minister spoke about good opportunities for investors, especially through the new investment law of Cambodia.

Regarding human resource development, the premier requested Korea continue to assist Cambodia in this area, such as increasing the provision of scholarships to Cambodian civil servants and students, such as training in technical skills and civil aviation.

On this occasion, PM Hun Sen also requested Korea to continue to increase the quota to bring more Cambodian workers to work in Korea and to continue to pay attention to the well-being of Cambodian workers, while Samdech thanked Korea for vaccinating Covid-19 to Cambodian who is working in Korea.

PM also thanked Korea regarding the construction of the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge in Cambodia, which crosses the Mekong River through grants and concessional loans to serve the needs of the Cambodian people. He also thanked the Republic of Korea for its contribution to the fight against Covid-19, especially for providing concessional loans, especially medical aid for Cambodia.

In response, Moon Jae-In, President of the Republic of Korea, stated that the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement is being submitted to the Parliament of the Republic of Korea for ratification. He said that Korea will continue to work with Cambodia on Investment and help the economy while currently, about 300 Korean companies are investing in Cambodia.

Cambodia and Korea re-established ties with the participation of the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, and later officially announced their relationship in 1997. Over the past 25 years, bilateral relations between Cambodia and South Korea have reached a high level, boosting trade, investment, tourism, and development assistance. Cooperation between the two counterparts can be seen in many fields ranging from politics to economics.
