PM to Meet President of The Republic of Korea During 2022 World Peace Summit

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen will co-chair the 2022 World Peace Summit in Seoul, South Korea from 10-13 February. During his stay in Seoul, he will also meet with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Prime Minister Hun Sen and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will meet to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation, including cooperation in the field of politics, and will engage in economic and sociocultural exchange of views on regional and international issues of common concern and interest.

In addition to meeting President Moon Jae-In, Prime Minister Hun Sen will also meet with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the heads of state of a number of other countries, as well as receive hearings from other political figures and businessmen.

The statement added that "On 12 February, the Summit will officially hand over the 5th Sun Hak Peace Prize to Prime Minister Hun Sen for his unwavering leadership. For many years, he has been the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, who has contributed to the stability, economic development and peace of Cambodia and the whole of Southeast Asia.”

Prime Minister Hun Sen is the first ASEAN leader to be awarded the Sun Hak Peace Prize. He is one among three winners in 2022, including the co-founder of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, GAVI Vaccine Coalition.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, 7 February, the President of the Universal Peace Federation Asia-Pacific and Special Envoy of the World Summit, Ek Nath Dhakal, said that the Sun Hak Peace Prize presented to Prime Minister Hun Sen reflects his sustainable development and leadership in Cambodia, as well as in the Asia-Pacific region, and his active involvement in many areas in the region, especially as the 2022 ASEAN Chair, and while attending many international meetings.
