MPWT Receives a Delegation from (UNDP) Delegation in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Sun Chanthol,has received a courtesy call on the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Cambodia, led by Director Alissar Chaker with the participation of ministry leaders and relevant professional officials, on Tuesday, 2 February, 2022.

At the said meeting, the Senior Minister has thanked the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Cambodia for its support and cooperation on projects implemented in the past in order to improve a sustainable transportation policy aims to reduce environmental impacts and continue efforts to further strengthen good relations and cooperation.

Senior Minister Chantol has also informed about the preparation of a draft road transport policy with consideration for the development of infrastructure to support the use of electric vehicles to reduce the negative impact of carbon emissions into the environment. Project Cooperation between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to install electric vehicle charging stations (EVs) Project in collaboration with the General Department of Customs and Taxation to prepare a plan for the import of used cars 10-year-olds and plans to meet with gas stations regarding the installation of EVs charging stations, including: Total, Caltex, Sokimex and Tela gas stations.

At the same time, the delegation has highlighted the global trend towards the use of electric vehicles to ensure sustainable development and climate change. One of the goals of sustainable development is to ensure environmentally friendly living and suggested that the Ministry work closely with development partners as well as the private sector to develop infrastructure to support electric vehicles and encourage participation from the relevant ministries and institutions on this issue as well.

In response, the Senior Minister has instructed the General Department of Land Transport of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to prepare a comprehensive roadmap related to the development of infrastructure to support the use of electric vehicles and to discuss with food delivery services such as: Food Panda And NHAM24 to examine the feasibility of using electric motors instead of gasoline motors in its service in response to sustainable road transport plans and policies.
