Cambodia Sends 184 Blue Helmet Troops to Lebanon

PHNOM PENH: A multi-skilled engineering force accompanied by 184 Cambodian Blue Helmet deminers (including 14 women) was sent to the United Nations mission in the Republic of Lebanon to replace the old force, which had completed its first year’s mission.

The Blue Helmet Army is on a mission to Lebanon to complete the construction of strongholds for Blue Helmet troops from other countries, to build blue posts along the Lebanese-Israeli border, and to continue the daily demining work.

This was confirmed by the Vice Chairman of the National Committee and Director General of the National Peacekeeping Center, General Sem Sovanny, during the departure ceremony of the Cambodian Blue Helmets at Phnom Penh International Airport on 2 February, 2022.

For the last 16 years, from 2006 to present, the National Peacekeeping Center in Cambodia has sent a total of 8,083 Blue Helmet troops (including 542 women) for 11 missions in nine countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Chad, Cyprus, Syria, Mali, Central Africa and Yemen, with brilliant achievements.

The Vice Chairman continued that the Cambodian Blue Helmet Force ready to embark on this mission is in response to the commitment made by Prime Minister Hun Sen to increase the participation of these troops, both in quantity and quality, in line with the new UN reforms.
