India Celebrates 73rd Republic Day on Wednesday with a Military Parade

INTERNATIONAL: India marked its 73rd Republic Day on Wednesday, January 26, with a military parade graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind.

With the number of attendees limited due to the coronavirus pandemic, the parade has showcased the country's military prowess, tradition, and culture at Rajpath, an elegant lawn-bordered boulevard.

Modi has also attended a ceremony at the National War Memorial prior to the parade, where he laid a wreath as a tribute to fallen soldiers.

India won independence from British rule on August 15, 1947, but it was not until January 26, 1950, that the nation has declared itself a sovereign republic state with the adoption of its constitution.
