PHNOM PENH: Four fire trucks were donated to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police by the Government of Japan, under the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects, also known as the KUSANONE Grant, in order to help improve the city’s firefighting capacity.

The handover ceremony of the four fire trucks took place on Monday morning in the presence of Phnom Penh Governor, Khuong Sreng, and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, Mikami Masahiro, at the headquarters of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police in Russey Keo district.

The Japanese Government provided the Phnom Penh Municipal Police’s Fire and Rescue department with two standard fire trucks, one chemical fire truck, and one 40-meter ladder fire truck, which will contribute to facilitate the work, and increase the capacity, of the fire brigade.

Japan's KUSANONE Grant began in Cambodia in 1991 to support Cambodia's efforts to develop and rebuild the country at the grassroots level. To date, the Government of Japan has provided more than $64 million dollars in grants to local authorities and NGOs to implement a total of 651 projects.
