INTERNATIONAL: It’s a sweet, cuddly mayhem. It’s Teddy Bear toss time! Hershey Bears fans let the stuffed animals fly in world-record fashion as thousands of stuffed animals were gathered for charity as the Hershey Bears held their 'Teddy Bear Toss' event on Saturday ,January 22, night in Pennsylvania.
The Bears, a minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals that play in the American Hockey League, last held the event in 2019 and have collected 45,650 stuffed toys that were thrown onto the ice.
The Toss is triggered by the first Bears goal of the game and that came in the first period when Axel Jonsson-Fjallby hs scored on the power play. Bears went on to defeat the Hartford Wolf Pack 5-0.
Hershey, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals, hosted its annual “Teddy Bear Toss” game on Saturday night.
The well-equipped fans have entered the Giant Center with full garbage bags containing the plush animals and eagerly waited. The highly anticipated promotion is when fans throw and donate stuffed animals onto the ice following Hershey’s first goal.
Bears forward Axel Jonsson-Fjällby has opened the scoring on the powerplay. Bears went on to defeat the Hartford Wolf Pack 5-0, and the flood gates, in the first period. Thousands of stuffed animals have sailed over the glass and blanketed the ice to commemorate the spectacle.
