BREAKING NEWS: Those Who Are Positive of Covid-19 Omicron Variant Can Choose Their Own Treatment Place

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen on Friday night, 21 January, has decided to allow foreign travelers who are positive for Omicron to be treated at home, hotel or their embassy and allow all Omicron patients who are being treated at public hospitals can be treated at home.

After monitoring the situation of the development and spread of Covid-19 type Omicron in Cambodia for a while, on Friday night, Prime Minister Hun Sen has issued a message to improve the treatment conditions of Covid-19 Omicron type from public hospital by choosing a self-treatment place at home, hotel or embassy for all travelers coming to Cambodia from this Friday night.

The Prime Minister of Cambodia has said that although the transmission or infection rate of Omicron variant is fast, it is less dangerous compared to Covid-19 mutation Delta and Alpha, which was approved by the government in the past to allowed patients treatment at home, hotel and other places.

The premier has decided: "I would like to issue an order to the Ministry of Health to the relevant authorities to implement the following: First, for all foreigners who come to the Kingdom of Cambodia, when it is found that positive Covid-19, either its Omicron or not Omicron variant, to be allowed to stay at the hotel, stay at the embassy, stay at the place of their choice. So, there is no need to bring foreigners to the hospital anymore. The second point concerns Cambodians from abroad and Cambodians in the country, if infected with Omicron, also allowed to be treated at home as the same case as Delta and Alpha. The same goes for medical procedures.”

Samdech Hun Sen has also added: "In case there is no place in their home while recuperating, then they can come to the state hospital. However, in cases where treatment is possible, provide opportunities for treatment where needed.Third, for Omicron patients who are currently in the hospital , either foreigners or Cambodians and want to leave the hospital for treatment at home or at the hotel, please allow them to leave starting from this night onwards.”

On 5 January 2022, due to concerns about the spread of Covid-19 disease, Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen has announced that he would not allow the treatment of Omicron patients at home, requiring hospitalization to prevent the spread of the disease to the community.

However, Prime Minister has observed that the Omicron variant is contagious, but mild, and does not cause harm compared to Delta and Alpha. On Friday night, Prime Minister Hun Senhas issued a new resolution , to allow people found positive with Covid-19 , Omicron variant to choose their place of treatment.
