Ministry of Agriculture Closes Fishing During Spawning Season

PHNOM PENH: The Fisheries Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has made an announcement requesting all fishermen to stop fishing for short mackerel during the spawning season, which will last from 15 January to 31 March 2022.

The Fisheries Administration emphasized, “… all citizens engaged in the fishing of short mackerel in the marine fisheries of the Kingdom of Cambodia, please stop fishing activities of short mackerel from 15 January – 31 March.” This restriction is being made in order to contribute to the preservation and protection of marine resources in the future.

According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2020, Cambodia produced 936,300 tons of fishery products, including more than 410,000 tons of freshwater products, more than 120,000 tons of marine products and more than 400,000 tons of aquaculture products.
