Phnom Penh Governor Urges All 14 Districts to Strengthen Measures to Prevent Community Transmission of Omicron

PHNOM PENH: The Governor of Phnom Penh, Khuong Sreng has urged all 14 districts authorities, as well as other relevant departments to strengthen the prevention and control against the Covid-19 virus, especially with the Omicron variant already reaching the Kingdom and community transmissions being detected.

The Governor has encouraged all citizens to get their third doses of vaccine, as well as wait for the fourth doses to be disponible by the Royal Government.

The statement was made during a video conference with all 14 district authorities for promotion of vaccination against Covid-19, at Phnom Penh Capital Hall on Tuesday morning.

The Governor Khuong Sreng has stressed to all district authorities the urge to strengthen protection measures, such as the implementation of the 3 Do’s and Don’ts, as well as other health measures promoted by the Royal Government, such as vaccination centers in 42 difference locations in Phnom Penh.

Khong Sren has also confirmed the Phnom Penh Capital Administration plans to establish more vaccination sites, expanding accessibilities for citizens to receive their booster shots and the upcoming fourth doses. He has added that vaccination is the strongest weapon to prevent Covid-19 illness.

He stressed that all citizens must be vaccinated in both booster and fourth doses, regardless of whether they were previously vaccinated by a military doctor or vaccinated in a district with a civilian unit. All doctors have to vaccinate all citizens to avoid hearing they went to get vaccinated but doctors denied their vaccinations.

The Governor of Phnom Penh has also instructed all relevant departments and units to order officials at all levels to continue implementing health measures promoted by Ministry of Health, especially officials and staff from the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of Phnom Penh, that must issue a letter to parents and guardians of all students.

According to the videoconference, the letter will guide all citizens to get vaccinated against Covid-19, including the booster doses, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19, especially the new Omicron virus, already spreading between communities.

At last, Governor Khuong Sren announced the handing over of masks to all 14 district authorities, each one receiving 10,000 masks. All state markets throughout Phnom Penh will also be receiving 5,000 masks each to work along the government in the prevention of Covid-19.
