Government Prepares to Build Victory Memorial in Anlong Veng District, Oddar Meanchey

SIEM REAP: The Minister of National Defense and Chairman of the Victory Monument Construction Committee, Tea Banh, announced the composition of a subcommittee on the construction of the Victory Monument in Anlong Veng District, Oddar Meanchey Province. He made this announcement on Monday at the Siem Reap provincial administration during his speech at the celebration of the historic liberation of Siem Reap on 10 January.

Deputy Prime Minister Tea Banh said that Cambodia has experienced the passing of the flames of war, which caused great pain to the country’s people, and Oddar Meanchey province still has scars left that have not yet disappeared. He added that a peaceful end to the wars and divisions of the nation is indeed difficult to achieve, but ensuring the stability, peace and further strengthening of the culture of peace achieved is an even more difficult task, and for many generations, the Kingdom of Cambodia never had complete peace like today.

He said that with Prime Minister Hun Sen’s win-win policy, the country has achieved complete peace, which is the main factor for promoting the development of the country in all fields, and the successful integration of Cambodia into regional and international affairs, which has transformed people's lives from poverty to prosperity.

The Deputy Prime Minister continued that many generations of historical experience and recent social achievements act as an important basis for Cambodia to unite in building the Victory Monument in Phnom Penh, which took place under the noble initiative of Prime Minister Hun Sen, and the Victory Monument in Koh Kong Province.

He further continued that the Victory Monument planned to be built in Anlong Veng District is an important achievement and source of national pride for civil servants, Armed Forces and all the people of Oddar Meanchey Province. He said the Victory Monument is built to show a culture of gratitude and remembrance of the heroism, achievements and wisdom of the leaders who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of peace.

The Deputy Prime Minister concluded his speech by saying that the true history of the journey towards overthrowing the genocidal regime of Pol Pot on 20 June 1977 is a series of historical events which took place in Oddar Meanchey province which future generations should learn about, to remember the true heroism of Cambodians, and which acts as a record of the ability, knowledge, and true value of Cambodian leaders.
