Minister Cham Prasidh Presides Over Inauguration Ceremony of Water Treatment System in Kampot

KAMPOT: On Sunday afternoon, the Kampot Water Supply Authority in Kampot City officially inaugurated the water treatment system using new UF-MEMBRANE technology built by the Sinhour Long Water Industry company. The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, Cham Prasidh.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor of Kampot Province, Mao Thunin, said that the clean water sector is very important to people’s lives. He added that the water sector in Kampot province is growing steadily, with a state water supply unit, the Kampot Water Supply Authority and 18 private water supply services covering two cities and seven districts (equal to 42 communes/districts), with a production capacity of 44,100 cubic meters per day, and 52,271 households in the service area, (equal to 261,335 people, of which 29,244 households have access to clean water).

He continued that at the same time, the private water supply service in the districts are also actively involved in the production and supply of water to the people through the issuance of a number of business licenses.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Senior Minister Cham Prasidh said that the new water treatment system using UF-MEMBRANE technology, installed in the Kampot Water Supply Unit, is another new achievement in response to the recommendation of Prime Minister Hun Sen, who announced his support for the slogan "Clean water for all”, in which water sources will also be used as “multi-purpose sources".

The Senior Minister stated that these are achievements which the Ministry, as well as the Provincial Department of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, have strived to develop in line with the direction set before 2021, under the project of cooperation between the state and the private sector. He said that the clean water produced using this high-quality technology system can be drunk with an automatic control system to control the water quality when sending water to supply to the people.

He added that in this regard, the development of the water sector is necessary for the active cooperation of ministries, provincial administrative institutions, specialized units, local authorities and people at all levels, as well as the policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which aims to "expand the scope of water supply in urban areas to 90 in 2023, and 100 in 2025, to serve the basic needs of the people, as well as for production and services, by developing and expanding water supply systems in both the public and private sectors, based on four conditions: water must be of good quality, safe, sustainable and affordable."
