PM Transfers More than $ 1 Million from Cambodia's Covid-19 ASEAN Response Fund to Help Myanmar

Phnom Penh: The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Cambodia, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon has said that Prime Minister Hun Sen has decided to transfer about $1 Million budget in response to the Covid-19 ASEAN, to help Myanmar to fight the ongoing pandemic.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon has announced in a press conference on Saturday that seeing Myanmar's need to buy vaccines for its people, Cambodia has achieved nearly 90 percent of the vaccinations for citizens. Cambodia’s prime minister has decided to transfer these funds for ASEAN to buy vaccines to supply to Myanmar.

The Deputy Prime Minister was quoted as saying; "Within the ASEAN framework, we have the Covid-19 Response Fund in ASEAN, in which all ASEAN countries have agreed to adopt a budget of more than $ 10.5 million, to buy vaccines distributed to ASEAN member countries equally. In this regard, Prime Minister Hun Sen has decided that the share in this package, which is worth about $1 million dollars is to be given to Myanmar to help the country fight against Covid-19.

To date, Cambodia has vaccinated more than 14.2 million people, equivalent to 89.26percent, while the daily infection rate is only imported.

On Friday, during a state visit to Myanmar, Prime Minister Hun Sen has also brought along medical materials and equipment for Myanmar, including 3 million facemasks, 200,000 masks N95, 100,000 goggles, 30,000 PPE, 30,000 face shields, 3,000 safety plastic boots PR, 50 units of ventilator machines, 50 patient monitors+accessories, and 50 units of Oxygen concentrators.
