Prime Minister Hun Sen Says His Visit to Myanmar Aimed to Establish Cessation of Hostilities and Avoid Violence

MYANMAR: The Prime Minister of Cambodia and the President of ASEAN, Samdech Hun Sen has confirmed the purpose of his visit to Myanmar is to contribute to avoiding the country from violence and civil war through ceasefire and humanitarian ceasefire agreement, establishes the cessation of hostilities through development and provide assistance to those in need without discrimination.

The announcement of the prime minister was made on Saturday afternoon, 8 January 2022 through his Facebook page after successfully concluding his visit to Myanmar.

He also stated that ASEAN and its willing partners, as well as Myanmar itself, still have a long way to go to ensure effective ceasefire and assistance.

 "Those who oppose the ceasefire mean you want the deaths and injuries of the war, those who oppose aid mean you want people to die of starvation, without medicine and without vaccination against the Covid 19 pandemic, “ Cambodian premier has said.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has also confirmed that today is the 43rd anniversary of the day that he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs ,8 January 1979 - 8 January 2022. He was about to turn 27 years old when he became the youngest foreign minister in the world at the time.

At the same time,he also said, "Obviously, 43 years later, I continue fulfilling my responsibilities in foreign affairs, even though I have been the Prime Minister for 37 years, because the Prime Minister has to lead politics both inside and outside country. So I have to spend more than half of my life doing this."
