Gold Medal Pentaque Winner Receives Award from PM Hun Sen

PHNOM PENH:​ On Wednesday morning at the Peace Palace, Prime Minister Hun Sen presented an award for Ouk Sreymom, gold medal performance at the 2021 World Petanque Championship

In the occasion, Ouk Sreymom has received 40,000,000 riel from the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports as well as another personal contribution from Prime Minister and his wife, of $10,000.

Ouk Sreymom’s coach, Sok Mom has also received 40,000,000 riel from the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports as well as a $5,000 dollars from Prime Minister Hun Sen and his wife.

The award has been delivered to congratulate the athlete.

On 14 of November, 2021, Ouk Srey Mom won the gold medal in the 2021 World Petanque Championship, held in Santa Susanna, Spain.

The gold medal came after defeating Thailand 39 to 27.

 This is the second time Ouk Srey Mom has won the World Patent Gold Medal after winning the World Patent Games in Ghent, Belgium in 2017.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Hun Sen wrote on his Facebook page on November 14, 2021 that Cambodia is very proud and congratulates Ouk Srey Mom for defeating Thailand in the finals.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has also reminded to all national athletes to keep enhancing their capacity and talents for the SEA Games 2023 to be hosted by Cambodia, reiterating that sports do not depend on the size of the country or the number of population, but on capacity, training, and talents.

The Premier encouraged the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia to identify more potential sports such as petanque.

The Prime Minister has congratulated and expressed his pride that Cambodian petanque athletes had earned gold medals at world championships for five consecutive generations.

According to Minister of Education, Youth and Sports H.E. Hang Chuon Naron, for petanque sports, the Kingdom has so far achieved 370 medals, including over 100 gold medals.

With these awards, Ouk Srey Mom, now a brigadier general of the Ministry of National Defense, will also be promoted to the rank of Major General through the work that she brings to the nation.
