More Than 9.2 Million Citizens Registered to Vote for 5th Sangkat Council Election

PHNOM PENH: The National Election Committee, known as NEC has issued a statement on Tuesday regarding the preliminary voter list of 2021.

The report says that Cambodia has more than 9.2 million eligible voters.

Of those 9.2 million voters, almost 5 million are women, according to the preliminary voter list 2021 issued by the National Election Committee.

Such numbers of registered voters represents nearly 88% of the total populations of 18 years old and up.

As Cambodia is preparing for the 5th Commune or Sangkat Council Election, scheduled to happen on the 5th of June this year, the numbers of polling stations are already being selected.

The National Election Committee has issued that 23,602 polling stations are set across the Kingdom.

 The Committee has also declared that all registered voter who has made any mistaken in their registration can submit a form within ten days of Tuesday’s publication on nec.gov.kh.

It has been announced, however, that mostly names rejected for the list represents non-Cambodian citizens or those who doesn’t have registered a permanent address. Deaths, prison sentences and being underage were other factors to be excluded from the registration list.

The Neutral and Impartial Committee for Free and Fair Elections in Cambodia will deploy observers throughout the polling stations.

Observers will be selected by their long time participating and working in the elections, to ensure a safe observing and neutral judgment.

They will be provided with food and gasoline allowances.
