Medvedev's Unbeaten Russia Top ATP Cup Group

INTERNATIONAL: World number two Daniil Medvedev produced a dominant performance to overwhelm Australia's Alex de Minaur and help unbeaten Russia go within touching distance of the ATP Cup semi-finals

Medvedev's flawless display in his 6-4 6-2 victory was the perfect response to his stunning defeat by France's Ugo Humbert on Sunday (January 2) and wiped out any doubts about his readiness for this month's Australian Open.

After Roman Safiullin battled past James Duckworth 7-6(6) 6-4 to give Russia a 1-0 lead, Medvedev turned on the style to clinch the opening set against De Minaur before racing ahead 5-0 in the second to seal the tie.

Medvedev and Safiullin then teamed up for the doubles, beating John Peers and Luke Saville 7-6(7) 3-6 10-6 to wrap up a 3-0 win.

Russia face Italy in the decisive match of Group B on Thursday (January 6) to decide which of them progresses to the semi-finals.

Canada beat Great Britain 2-1 leaving all four teams in Group C with 1-1 records going into Thursday's (January 6) final round of matches.

Britain's Dan Evans continued his perfect start to the season with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Denis Shapovalov but Felix Auger-Aliassime levelled the tie for Canada after edging past Cameron Norrie 7-6(4) 6-3.

Auger-Aliassime then paired up with Shapovalov for the deciding doubles against Jamie Murray and Joe Salisbury, winning 6-4 6-1.

With Germany gaining their first Group C win against the United States earlier in the day, all four teams are now in with a chance of progressing to the semi-finals. Great Britain face the U.S. with Canada taking on Germany on Thursday to decide which team reaches the semi-finals.
