Siem Reap Helds 26th Angkor Wat International Half Marathon

PHNOM PENH: More than 2,000 runners, including 200 international citizens have participated in the 2021 Angkor Wat International Half Marathon, the 26th of its kind.

The Marathon was held on Sunday morning at the Angkor Wat Archaeological Park, attracting citizens who love to run in outdoors, specially next to the outstanding view of Angkor Wat.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Tourism and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia Vath Chamroeun has stated the International Half Marathon helps to promote around the world how Siem Reap is ready to welcome tourists back.

It also provides information to half marathon runners around the world to be ready to rejoin the event in the years to come. While participating, they will be amazed at the infrastructure, landscaping, environment and organization of the event and in Siem Reap as whole.

The Secretary General of the National Committee of CAMSOC added they have seen more than 200 foreigners have registered to participate in a happy mood. In particular, they appreciated the effort that Cambodia has taken to organize such a big half marathon.

The Chairman of the International Half Marathon Organizing Committee Sem Phalla said that although the restart was attended by just over 2,000 people, it was very important and meaningful because it was organized and restored. For the past two years, during the Covid-19 crisis, half marathon activities in Cambodia as well as around the world have been suspended.

The International Half Marathon Day had 4 different categories, including 21 km, 10 km, 5 km and 3 km as a family recreation.

The event has still focused on health measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, such as wearing a mask while gathering, spraying alcohol and checking temperatures.
