MoFA Spokesman: Bombing Near Cambodian Embassy in Myanmar Does Not Affect PM's Visit

PHNOM PENH: Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Koy Kuong, told EAC News that at around 10 am on Friday, a handmade bomb exploded near the Cambodian Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar. Currently, Myanmar authorities are tightening security in and around the embassy.

The bombing comes just one week before Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen plans to visit Myanmar to meet with Myanmar military leader Min Aung Hlaing.

Spokesman Koy Kuong confirmed that the Prime Minister’s plans to visit Myanmar have not changed.

"Of course, the host country should still worry about this, how to keep their guest safe," he added.

Prime Minister Hun Sen will visit Myanmar on 7-8 January 2022, to help find a solution to the crisis in Myanmar and bring the country back as a member of ASEAN.

Cambodia's planned visit and intention to seek a solution for the conflict in Myanmar has been supported by the UN Special Envoy for Myanmar, Noeleen Heyzer, who expressed her willingness to work with Cambodia to find a peaceful solution to the Myanmar crisis.
