Minister of Interior Announces Inauguration of Youth Rehabilitation Center in Bakou commune, Kandal Stung District

KANDAL: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sar Kheng on Tuesday, has officially inaugurated the Youth Rehabilitation Center in Bakou Commune, Kandal Steung District, Kandal Province.

Speaking at the ceremony, the deputy prime minister has emphasized that "this Youth Rehabilitation Center is another new achievement of the Royal Government, which is considered to be the first historical achievement in Cambodia." For him this is a place where juvenile offenders must be prepared to receive education, change and become good youth in the society, which is in line with the actual situation of Cambodia based on national law and international rules.

According to the report of the Director General of the General Department of Prisons, there are 1,422 juveniles in detention, some of whom are accused. Some of the defendants are convicts and most of them are involved in drug offenses, aggravated theft or robbery, murder, rape and other offenses.

Among the juvenile detainees, 50 were transferred to the Youth Rehabilitation Center for probation he instructed the relevant ministries to urgently prepare an inter-ministerial declaration to manage this center and transfer all minors from prisons to this youth rehabilitation center.
