Secretary of State Em Chanmakara Says PM and Wife Consider PWDs Need to be Taken Care Of

PHNOM PENH: Secretary of State for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Secretary-General of the Disability Action Council, Mr. Em Chanmakara stated that PM and his wife consider person with disabilities among the people who need to be taken care of, which is why the sector Disability in Cambodia is growing, including providing comfort to people with disabilities.

On behalf of the Minister of Social Affairs, Mr. Vong Sauth,bringing the gifts of PM Hun Sen and Bun Rany Hun Sen to distribute to the person with disabilities of the Samneang Music Association for the Disabled on the occasion of the New Year and to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.Mr. Em Chanmakara brought greetings from Minister Vong Sauth, as well as PM and his wife, who always look after the person with disabilities, PM and his wife always consider the difficulties of the persons with disability and encourage them to have access to social services, employment opportunities, livelihoods like the general population.

The attention of the Head of the Royal Government in the past has made the disability sector in Cambodia more prosperous, discrimination against people with disabilities has been eliminated, especially the job opportunities that person with disabilities have access to.

"In the past, PM and his wife have always given priority and importance to person with disabilities, whether in urban or rural areas. At the same time, the Samneang Music Association for the Disabled also received attention from PM and his wife, such as participating in the construction of the building where person with disabilities are staying now.

According to the Council for the Action of Persons with Disabilities, there are approximately 700,000 person with disabilities in Cambodia, while the status of person with disabilities is constantly being taken care of by the Royal Government to ensure that all person with disabilities to have the ability to participate in the development of the country is the same as the general population.

As of 2020, there are 8,768 people with disabilities working in public and private institutions nationwide, of which 4,204 are women with disabilities. Separately, as of 8 November 2021, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation has cooperated with relevant ministries, institutions, and the Capital and Provincial Disability Action Council to process disability identification throughout the country to produce disability cards for 215,358 people with disabilities. Of these, 26,949 people with disabilities are self-employed entrepreneurs. During the Covid-19 outbreak, 61,426 people with disabilities were given cash by the Royal Government of Cambodia to help them cope with the crisis caused by the epidemic.
