PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has expressed an early new year’s wish for King Norodom Sihamoni. Together with his wife who is the president of the Cambodian Red Cross, Bun Rany Hun Sen, the Prime Minister says that they wish for more years in life for the King with bright wisdom will continue to be spread around the nation.
The Prime Minister says, "I, Your Majesty, to give a deep message of gratitude and devotion to His Majesty's wisdom, wisdom and noble deeds especially His Majesty the King, has always been pure in his heart.”
King Norodom Sihamoni ascend the throne in October 2004. He was the son of His Majesty King Norodom Sihanouk and Her Majesty Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.
Cambodia became the second monarchy in September 1993. The formation of the monarchy follows the actions of Norodom Sihanouk and Prime Minister Hun Sen who established the 1991 Paris Agreement, brought the monarchy back to Cambodia.
According to the Cambodian Constitution, the King is the head of state for life, reigning but not in power. He is the symbol of national unity and sustainability, the guarantor of national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, respect for the rights and freedoms of the people, and respect for international treaties.
The King has a high role as an arbitrator to ensure the regular functioning of public power.
Addressing at the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodia-China Stung Trang-Krouch Chhmar Friendship Bridge on 23 November 2021, the Prime Minister of Cambodia stated that the King and Queen Mother, although he has less wealth than the kings of other countries. But both of them are very concerned about the well-being of the people. In particular, he spent his own money to transfer to the Royal Government to buy hospitals, buy vaccines and other humanitarian aid, which PM considered both his actions and dedication as a major national movement to resolve the crisis in Cambodia
