Train Crashes into Truck in Peru

INTERNATIONAL: A train crashed into a truck on Tuesday in the municipality of Ate in Lima, Peru.

According to local authorities, the accident has occurred when the truck driver recklessly tried to cross the rail tracks ramming into the moving train.

Although no injuries were reported, rescue teams worked on-site to free the truck driver who was trapped inside the vehicle.

"I stopped at the traffic light because it was red and drove forward once it turned green, but I could not hear the train because it made no sound," said Johnny Meliton, the driver of the truck impacted by the train.

This type of accident is common in the area, says Lupe Ayala, a witness to the crash who has lived in the area for over forty years. "The train drivers are not used to sounding their horn, they do not honk, they just raise their hand and that’s it," Ayala has said.

Rescue teams stayed on-site clearing the wreckage while helping residents cross the train tracks.
