Ministry of Labor: NagaWorld Labor Dispute Still Ongoing

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has issued a press release on the outcome of the Labor Dispute Resolution Meeting held at NagaWorld on Thursday, saying that both parties still have not come to an agreement on how to end the ongoing dispute.

According to the press release, the Ministry of Labor will continue to coordinate and mediate the labor dispute between NagaWorld Limited and the NagaWorld Worker’s Labor Rights Union, with Chhim Sithor and Horm Sunrith representing the workers union, and Mike Ngai representing the company.

Regarding why the two sides were unable to come to an agreement, the Ministry of Labor stated these points:

1. The company (NagaWorld Limited) representatives will consider calculating severance pay for the 85 workers who have agreed to accept compensation in accordance with the law under the coordination of the Ministry, but the company refuses to accept protesting workers back into employment.

2. The workers' representatives (union) demand a settlement package which includes the company accepting protesting workers back into employment first, then providing the other 85 workers (who have agreed to accept compensation) with the calculated severance payment in accordance with the law.

The Ministry of Labor continues to encourage both sides to continue cooperating with the Ministry and the competent authorities to end this dispute in a spirit of mutual understanding.
