PHNOM PENH: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the National Committee for Road Safety, Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng, instructed the Capital-Provincial Road Safety Sub-Committee to increase measures to further restrict the law on road traffic in accordance with the work direction of the committee. The National Committee for Road Traffic Safety must be more rigorous, transparent, and increase the dissemination of road safety laws and standards in all forms to all platforms and all localities.
The command has been announced on the 16th International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Road Traffic Accidents, which took place in Kampong Cham province on Thursday morning. Sar Kheng has urged the Capital-Provincial Road Safety Sub-Committee to continue to pay attention to increase the capacity of law enforcement officers and to visit the Capital-Province to help promote road traffic safety work to progress.
He shared his condolences to the victims and their relatives who lost their lives in the traffic accident and prayed for the souls of all the victims to be happy and expressed their condolences. For the living victims of road accidents, he has wished them a speedy recovery.
On behalf of the National Road Safety Committee, he highlighted the excellent results of preventing and reducing road traffic accidents resulting from the amendment of the Sub-Decree on Transitional Penalties for Violations of Road Traffic Laws and Duties strive to implement measures to restrict the implementation of the law on land traffic.
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister also expressed his appreciation for all works and sacrifices of law enforcement officers at all levels throughout the country who have performed their duties without fear of exhaustion with a wise mind, responsibility and highly professional ethics.
He stated that the Royal Government has decided to identify one of the seven characteristics of the policy of safe villages, communes and district, that is, villages without traffic accidents, considering traffic accidents as a priority group.
According to the report of the National Road Safety Committee, by 2020, the number of traffic accidents nationwide will decrease by 942 times or 23%, the number of fatalities will decrease by 335 or 17% and the number of injuries will decrease to 1,455 people, equivalent to 24% compared to 2019. In the first 11 months of 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 533 or 18%. The number of fatalities decreased by 162 people or 11%, and the number of injuries decreased by 1,120 people.
