Banteay Meanchey Police Crack Down on Human Trafficking Case, Detain 23 People

BANTEAY MEANCHEY: Border authorities in Banteay Meanchey province arrested 23 Cambodians, including four children, who tried to cross the border to work illegally in Thailand on Wednesday night.

The Commander of the 815th Border Police Battalion, Colonel Suong Sao, told reporters that 22 of the arrested illegal migrant workers are from Siem Reap and had been deceived by sex traffickers into illegal employment in Thailand.

According to Colonel Suong Sao, after educating the 22 workers and the driver who was taking them across the border, the authorities handed over the 23 Cambodians to the specialized department of the Malai District Police Inspectorate to follow up with the appropriate arrest procedure.
