Sok Sovann, Known as William Guang: The Leader of the Robbery

PHNOM PENH: At around 10:40, on Sunday, the house of online seller Ean Sivmey was robbed by a group of five thieves wearing uniforms. About seven minutes after the thieves left Ean Sivmey’s home, the younger brother called the Phnom Penh Military Police for an intervention.

The Phnom Penh Military police immediately arrived at the scene and found the arrest warrant for Ean Sivmey, which the perpetrator used to throw away as a fake warrant, with police investigating the police uniform worn by the robbers and concluding it was a forgery.

At next, the Phnom Penh Military Police conducted a search to identify the target by verifying the identity of the thieves and the vehicle. Under the guidance of Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces General Sao Sokha and received permission from Prosecutor Chreung Khmao, assigning Deputy Prosecutor Sit Vannak to coordinate the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

Led by the Deputy Commander of the National Gendarmerie and Commander of the Phnom Penh Municipal Gendarmerie, General Rath Sreang visited the home of Sok Sovann Vathana Sabung, as known as William Guang. His residence is located in Borey Peng Huoth.

The police has arrested two people who drove out of the house for interrogation and continued to break into the house where the thieves were staying, arresting ten more people, reaching the total of 12 people (9 males, 3 females), including the so called William Guang, President of the Khmer Rise Party.

Under interrogation, Sok Sovann Vathana Sabung alias William Guang has admitted that the robbery of Ean Sivmey was led by him, along with his four other people, all of them armed with five weapons (1AK rifle and 4 pistols) wearing police uniform to enforce order and rob the owner.

The President of the Khmer Rise Party has added that when he entered the house, he was carrying a pistol, a mobile phone and a backpack, but because he was short sighted and did not wear glasses, he returned to sit in the car. After his gang took the diamonds, they have entered into the car to escape, but they weren’t able to escape from the law.
