Mandatory Covid-19 Quarantine Back in Thailand

INTERNATIONAL: The neighbor country of Cambodia, Thailand, has been reopened for foreign visitors since November, after a year and a half of closed borders and strict policies.

Since November, the kingdom has been promoting all international travelers to finally explore the country’s tourism, which has been severely affected by the pandemic. But after the detection of Omicron cases in Thailand, the country has decided to reinstate Covid-19 quarantines for all international travelers, starting today.

The decision has been made by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, deciding to suspend the “Test and Go” program during a meeting with the Thai response centre of Covid-19. On Monday, Minister Anutin Charnvikarul has stated the government is thinking to scrap Thailand’s quarantine exemption, which came to be ordered by the Thai leader in the next day.

So far, Thailand has detected 63 cases of Omicron variant, only one classified as local, while all the 62 cases have been brought in by imported transmission.
