Four People Dead After Tragic Light Plane Crash in Australia

INTERNATIONAL: Two children and two adults have been confirmed dead in a horror light plane crash off Australia's east coast on Sunday morning.

The 69-year-old pilot has taken the three passengers on a joy ride. The plane went down close to mangroves in Moreton Bay at Redcliffe, northeast of Brisbane, shortly after taking off. The wreckage was discovered upturned in shallow water.

The light aircraft took off from Redcliffe Airport, north of Brisbane, about 9am on Sunday. Police divers recovered the bodies of four people at 12noon.

The matter is currently under investigation and authorities are working together with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau to determine the cause of the crash.

Malaysia’s Worst Flooding in Years Leaves 30,000 People Displaced

A drone footage from Sunday shows the extent of flooding in Malaysia caused by torrential rains which has forced about 30,000 people to seek safety on higher, drier ground. Only roofs were visible amid muddy floodwaters in parts of Selangor, the country's most populous state. Rescue efforts are still underway for those trapped in vehicles and outside of their homes, while reports from Saturday of those trapped at home have been resolved.

Meanwhile, heavy rain and strong winds have forced the evacuation of thousands of people living along the Vietnamese coastline, as the country braced for Typhoon Rai on Sunday. Strong waves and wind have killed a fisherman and sunk five vessels.

Authorities have instructed fishing boats to take shelter with Rai forecast to make landfall between Sunday evening and Monday morning. The army has mobilised troops to help build sandbag walls along the beach to prevent flooding.

Authorities in the Philippines have evacuated at least 364,000 people across the Caraga, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Western Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula regions. Hundreds of schools and offices have been temporarily closed in the affected areas.

As of Saturday, more than 100 fatalities have occurred across the Visayas, including at least 50 from Bohol Province and 20 in Negros Occidental Province. At least 15 others died in the Caraga and Northern Mindanao regions. The casualty numbers will likely increase in the coming days. Reports indicate substantial infrastructure damage in Surigao City, northern Mindanao; landslides, fallen trees, and power lines have cut off roads to the city. Reports also indicate flooding in Cagayan de Oro, Bohol, and Kabankalan, among other locations. A storm surge of 16.5 feet destroyed at least 4,000 houses in Sogod, Southern Leyte.

Typhoon Rai, is the strongest tropical storm to hit the country this year.Rai is also the 9th storm to hit Vietnam this year.

Explosion at Karachi’s Habib Bank Leaves at Least 15 Dead

And…At least 15 people were killed and 16 others injured in an explosion on Saturday at a bank branch in Karachi’s industrial area.

A senior police officer has said the blast at a branch of Habib Bank, Pakistan’s largest lender, could have been caused by a gas leak. The building has appeared to have been constructed over a sewage drain.

Explosives teams are at work trying to ascertain the nature of the blast, but apparently the structure was constructed on a drain and gas could be a probable cause.

A petrol station located next to the bank and cars parked nearby were badly damaged. A footage shows the bank’s floor ripped apart, exposing twisted iron bars. So far 15 people have died and 16 were brought injured to hospital,Karachi’s administrator Murtaza Wahab has confirmed.
