French Ambassador Affirms Support for Cambodia to National Assembly President

PHNOM PENH: France’s new Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Jacques Pellet, paid a courtesy visit to the President of the National Assembly, Heng Samrin, on the Friday morning at the National Assembly. President Heng Samrin warmly welcomed the new French Ambassador who had been recently appointed to the position, and emphasized that the National Assembly of Cambodia is ready to facilitate cooperation for the Ambassador’s diplomatic mission to be a success.

During the visit from French Ambassador, Jacques Pellet, this morning, the President of the National Assembly, Heng Samrin, said that Cambodia and France have been building relations between the two countries for a long time. He added that this good relationship and cooperation has continued to strengthen and expand to this day, and he hopes that the French Ambassador will continue to contribute to strengthening, expanding and promoting the existing good relations between Cambodia and France to another level during his diplomatic mission.

Ambassador Jacques Pellet expressed his deep gratitude to President Heng Samrin for allowing him to pay a courtesy visit at this time. He further praised and appreciated the smooth reopening of Cambodia as a result of the government's great vaccination strategy. He also emphasized that the reopening of Cambodia has enabled the French and Cambodian parliaments to further promote and enhance good cooperation, including exchanges of visits.

The Ambassador expressed his happiness and congratulations to Cambodia in regard to the use of the French language in the country, as well as in the National Assembly of Cambodia. He added that in the future, the Secretary General of the International Organization of Francophonie will visit Cambodia, which will act as an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two countries’ parliaments.

Finally, the Ambassador affirmed to President Heng Samrin that France will continue to cooperate and provide development assistance to Cambodia.
