PHNOM PENH: FUNCINPEC, the royalist political party, has issued a statement on Monday dismissing a declaration that the party had not yet decided on its presidential candidacy, which was formed by a small number of individuals and did not reflect the party's will. They have declared the party will act against those who might have create the misperception.
FUNCINPEC stated that currently the right to decide all the work of all parties is under the management of Prince Norodom Chakravuth, the only acting chairman. The party also stated that the press release on the outcome of the Extraordinary Session of the FUNC Board of Directors, issued on 13 December, was organized by a small number of individuals who had already lost their qualifications and lost their party membership Cannot represent the party.
"We will take the strongest possible legal action against individuals who falsify party status and documents, misleading party members and the public," the party said in a statement.
It has been also stated that the decision of the Extraordinary Session of the FUNCINPEC Party Committee, which announces the party has not yet found a new chairman to succeed Samdech Krom Preah, is different from previous statements. The party spokesman said that only Prince Norodom Chakravuth would be elected at the party congress in January.
Internal disputes within FUNCINPEC stem from the seizure of party seals since September 2021, when some senior party officials came forward to oppose and accuse Princess Norodom Marie of using party seals in arbitrary decisions in discussions with the party vice president. Forward, the party vice president also came out in support of the accusers, which made the decision of the whole party members to be against each other.
