PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has congratulated the Kingdom of Cambodia as it celebrates the 66th anniversary of being part of the United Nations. The kingdom became a member of the largest international organization in the world at the end of the World War II.
The Prime Minister says, “The UN's aim is to preserve international peace and security, promote international cooperation under international law, develop economic development, intervene to settle disputes between member states and prevent world war. Cambodia has been actively involved in sustainable peacekeeping activities, which in the past 10 years, our Cambodia has sent many blue-helmet troops overseas, including the army of women and men, to some countries such as Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Central Africa, Siria, Cyprus, Mali, etc. The Cambodian Blue Helmet Army is a professional engineering force, level 2 medical force, mine cleaning force, armed forces and other military force, and recently Cambodia has become the leading country to give the opportunity to the women of the blue helmet to join the mission of the United Nations.”
Cambodia became a member of the UN in December 14, 1955. The UN in Cambodia works for peace, poverty eradication and human rights in the country. The UN is committed to enhancing development effectiveness in support of the priorities, plans and programs of the Royal Government of Cambodia, civil society and other relevant partners.
