Interior Ministry to Reform Police Quality

PHNOM PENH: Minister of Interior Sar Kheng orders the Ministry to start identifying police officers who have not yet undergone training in their profession. He also instructs checking the irregularities in the promotion of every unit as well as the inspection of police stations.

The Minister has delivered the message during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a school building on the campus of Preah Monivong High School in Battambang City, Battambang Province on Friday morning. He emphasizes the necessity of every police officer to understand the law and the proper ethics of their profession. He says that the Minister is reviewing a number of police officers from deputy chief to deputy commissioner general who are not a graduate from the Police Vocational Academy to receive additional training.

Minister Sar Kheng has also ordered for the inspection of local police stations to check if the ethics framework of the officers is being followed. He says the purpose of this reform is to ensure that the police are doing their job in protecting the people, making them feel safe and especially for people to trust the police.
