Cambodia Celebrates Human Rights Day on Friday

PHNOM PENH: The Chairman of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee, Mr. Keo Remy said that the Cambodian Human Rights Committee will celebrate the International Human Rights Day on 10 December under the theme "Together to promote human rights under the context of Covid-19" on an event which will be held in Kampong Cham province tomorrow.

Keo Remy told EAC News this year’s topic has been chosen because the world is under threat from Covid-19, which affects many people's fundamental rights, especially the right to live. He has added the ceremony has been chosen to be held in Kampong Cham due to the organizing committee of the seminar, disseminated by the UPR mid-term report in that province.

"We also had the participation of the OHCHR, which he invited, but I did not participate, only sent a voice with the EU and France, and there was also an OHCHR officer from Geneva and other countries like Sweden coming together. We also have banners advertising the celebration of Human Rights Day on 10 December." Declared Keo Remy

He added that under the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia, human rights have been well promoted during the outbreak of Covid-19, which has led to the reopening of Cambodia's economic and social society, which has restored the right to life. The right to education, the right to work and the right to economics are back to Cambodians.

The United Nations General Assembly, on the 10 December of 1948 has declared the first Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the first major achievement of the United Nations since its inception in 1945.

Human rights are rights that people must have, it is universal and for everyone, regardless of nationality, gender, color, religion or status. Key human rights include the right to life, the right to nutrition, the right to education, the right to employment, the right to health care and the right to liberty.
