Apsara Authority Restores East Gopura of Shiva Complex in Preah Khan

PHNOM EPNH: The Apsara National Authority is restoring the gates of the damaged Preah Iso building in Preah Khan temple to improve the beauty and protection of this temple for future generations. The restoration director and archaeologist Chea Sarith says that they observed that the gate structure of Preah Iso building in Preah Khan temple has been damaged. So, they decided to restore the damaged part last month which is estimated to take a year to complete.

The project started on 1 November, focusing on the preservation and repair of the east gate structure of Preah Iso building. The renovation is to strengthen the gate structure at risk due to water factors Penetration into the second foundation, the foundation structure was damaged, causing the pillar structure and the roof of the building to be damaged, meaning that the pillars were tilted more than 15 degrees, while the roof stone structure was torn apart, facing collapse.

The Preah Khan Temple is located on Vong Thom Road, exiting through the land gate of Angkor Thom. The temple was built in the 12th century in 1191 by Jayavarman VII to dedicate to his father. In 1928, by the Angkor Conservation Team of the French School of the Far East, and in 2002, the APSARA Authority studied and resisted the risk of collapsing by using wooden supports in addition to the old concrete supports.
