PM Plans to Serve More Years, Comparing to King Ponhea Yat

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun has reaffirmed his plan of staying in power as Prime Minister for years. He says at least 43 years, equal as King Ponhea Yat, also known as Barom Reachea II. The Prime Minister announced his desire for longer years in service during the inauguration ceremony of the National Road No. 11 in Prey Veng province on Monday.

Last Thursday, Prime Minister announced that he is fully backing his eldest son Hun Manet to be the included in the Prime Ministerial candidate. However, he clarified that it will not happen sooner while adding that there are three more Prime Ministerial candidates in his mind.

The Prime Minister has also reminded that in 14 of January next year will be the 37th anniversary of his tenure as Prime Minister of Cambodia. He has stressed that at least 10 more years will be needed to surpass King Ponhea Yat.

King Ponhea Yat reigned in the first half of the 15th century, historically known as a valiant king who had recaptured Angkor from Siam as well as the king who elevated the Phnom Penh capital.

However, according to his announcement, someone has asked him to advance his transfer of post to Hun Manet, but Prime Minister Hun Sen has answered it is not possible to bring Hun Manet yet. He says Hun Manet is not yet in the proper age to lead such leadership, and his work as leader for the nation needs to be done.
