UNDP Meets with Planning Minister, Vows to Help Cambodia Achieve SDGs

PHNOM PENH: The new UNDP Resident Representative in Cambodia Alissar Chaker has met with the Minister of Planning Chhay Than on Thursday. The two discussed about the country’s journey to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Minister has informed Chaker about Cambodia’s rapid growth, stressing that the country’s development was significantly contributed by the support of UNDP. He has also stated that UNDP has played curial roles in supporting the Ministry of Planning in various areas since 2000.

According to the Ministry, the assistance primarily covered the five-year work plan preparation, the framework of millennium and sustainable development goals 2000-2015 and 2016-2030 respectively, the National Strategic Development Plan 2014-2018 and 2019-2023, and the recent work on identification of poor families in the context of COVID-19.

On Chaker’s side, she has assured that the UNDP and the Royal Government will continue to work together, especially in curbing the Covid-19 pandemic, building community immunity as well as in providing financial support for the poor families during the pandemic. She has reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to Cambodia in helping to achieve the SDA
