Cambodia Supports International Regulatory Law for Global Health Security

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s Ministry of Health has expressed support on strengthening of the International Regulatory Law during the Second Special Meeting of the General Assembly of the World Health Organization held from Monday until Wednesday this week. The International Regulatory Law is a vital international legal instrument for global health security.

WHO’s general assembly was attended by 194 member countries including Cambodia. Ministry of Health’s Secretary of State and Chairman of the Commission for Covid-19 Vaccination Dr. Or Vandine represented the country. It was also participated by WHO Representative to Cambodia Dr. Li Ailan. The session was aimed to establish the World Health Organization Convention as well as agreements to develop strategies for international use in strengthening the preparedness and emergency response to public health emergencies.

Or Vandine has highlighted highlighting Cambodia's experience in responding to the epidemic, especially the Covid-19 epidemic, which reflected the importance of early preparation. The Ministry of Health has relayed the Cambodia welcomes discussions to consider a number of mechanisms that will complement the International Regulatory Law 2025 (IHR 2005) towards strengthening global, regional and national efforts to prepare and respond to epidemic. In addition, Cambodia supports the consideration of adequate and sustainable financing on the promotion of the approach of government as a whole and of society as a whole, as well as multilateral, bilateral cooperation and the private sector.
