Seven People Arrested in Battambang’s Forest Encroachment

PHNOM PENH: Battambang’s Criminal Investigation and Suppression Department of the Provincial Gendarmerie has arrested seven people involved in forest encroachment at O'Kambot point in Prek Chhot village, Peam Ek commune, Ek Phnom district on Tuesday.

Director of the Department of Crime Research and Suppression Colonel Sody says that under the direct command of the Commander of the Provincial Gendarmerie Brigadier General Meas Sovann seven Cambodians were caught in the act of clearing the forest illegally.

The arrested individuals are identified as:

1. Pip Hak, Male, 36 years old, Occupation: Farmer, Reside in Kork Dong Village, Peam Ek Commune, Ek Phnom District, Battambang Province.

2. Nguon Kouk, Male, 41 years old, Occupation: Farmer, Reside in Kork Dong Village, Peam Ek Commune, Ek Phnom District, Battambang Province.

3. Kong Bunthoeun, Male, 24 years old, Occupation: Farmer, Living in Kork Dong Village, Peam Ek Commune, Ek Phnom District, Battambang Province.

4. Ngy Thong, Male, 20 years old, Occupation is Farmer, Living in Kork Dong Village, Peam Ek Commune, Ek Phnom District, Battambang Province.

5. Kong Surin, Male, 54 years old, Occupation: Farmer, Living in Kork Dong Village, Peam Ek Commune, Ek Phnom District, Battambang Province.

6. Pip Phorn, Male, 30 years old, Occupation: Farmer, Living in Kork Dong Village, Peam Ek Commune, Ek Phnom District, Battambang Province.

7. Nguon Vannak, Male, 26 years old, Occupation: Farmer, Living in Pich Changva Village, Prey Kabbas Commune, Prey Kabbas District, Takeo Province.

The authorities have confiscated a tractor, bulldozer and three machines used in the illegal clearing process. The arrested individuals are currently being detained at Ek Phnom District Military Police base.
