Outcomes of the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit

PHNOM PENH: has successfully hosted the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM13) under the theme "Strengthening Multilateralism for Joint Growth" from 25 to 26 of November virtually. The Prime Minister of Cambodia chaired the summit, which was attended by the Heads of State / Government or senior representatives of ASEM partner countries, the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission and the Secretary-General of ASEAN.

The Prime Minister has emphasized that over the past 25 years, the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) has become an important forum for Asia-Europe relations and enhancing relations. Boosting partnership between the two continents. Moving forward to next 25 years, he has stressed that ASEM partners need to redouble their commitment to achieving effective multilateralism, an inclusive and resilient in the post Covid-19 crisis recovery. And to focus and address the worsening environmental issues and a more visible and robust ASEM in global governance.

At the end of the summit, ASEM leaders has adopted the three significant ASEM13 outcome documents; First is the ASEM13 Chair’s Statement; Second is the Phnom Penh Statement on the post Covid-10 Socio-Economic Recovery ; And third, The Way Forward on ASEM Connectivity.

ASEM leaders had an opportunity to listen to and noted the recommendations from the outcome presentation of the Five Side Events; the 11th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting (ASEP11), the 4th ASEF Young Leaders’ Summit (ASEFYLS4), the Asia-Europe Economic and Business Forum, the Asia-Europe Forum on Women, Peace and Security, and the Asia-Europe People’s Forum. The ASEM Cultural Festival (ASEMFest) showcasing the richness of artistic, creativity and diversity in Asia and Europe was well appreciated by everyone.

During the two-day Summit, ASEM Leaders have an honest and candid exchange of views on a broad range of issues of common concern and interest. ASEM Leaders have expressed their high appreciation to the Royal Government of Cambodia for the well organized arrangements and superb preparation and everyone is extending their sincere congratulations to Prime Minister Hun Sen on successfully chairing the Summit.
