Six Military and Ex-soldiers Detained Suspected of Illegal Arms Trafficking

Battambang: An official of the Ministry of Interior and six other ex-soldiers were detained by the Battambang provincial authorities and sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court after investigation resulting in them being suspected of illegal arms trafficking.

The arrests came after a series of weapons were found hidden along the Cambodian-Thai border in Battambang province, Phnom Proek and Kamrieng districts, totaling 100 AK47s, three M79s, 99 AKs, a 12.7mm Machine Gun attached to a cannon and 508 rounds.

Sources from Battambang provincial authorities have announced there were generals, officers of the General Department of Technical Equipment of the Ministry of National Defense, a colonel, lieutenants, soldiers and ex-soldiers, border guards and one officer from the Private Investment Department of the General Department of Immigration.
