Sweden Pledges to Support Cambodia’s PWD Employment

PHNOM PENH: The Swedish Embassy in Cambodia has pledged to support the employment of persons with disabilities in the kingdom. The Minister of Labour and Vocational Training has met with the Swedish First Secretary in Cambodia on Tuesday. The two officials have discussed stepping up the cooperation between Cambodia and Sweden, especially in the employment sector.

Swedish First Secretary Magnus Saemundsson has pledged to Minister of Labour Ith Samheng to establish at least one job center in all 25 capitals and provinces in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Swedish government aims to support the employment of persons with disabilities in Cambodia under the project "Labour market for all people, supporting disabled job seekers. " The project was created two months ago by the Royal Government of Cambodia in collaboration with Sweden, Non-Government Organizations and the United Nations.

The Minister has stressed that Cambodia has started to reopen the country to restore the nation's economy for further development and progress, thus creating conditions for the lives of the people to be better in the new normal trajectory.

Saemundsson has expressed his belief that the project will expand the scope of people to find employment opportunities and provide labour to meet the needs to institutions, companies, factories, enterprises for their production chain. He has vowed that the Swedish government will continue to support the Royal Government of Cambodia.

Currently, the project has established 13 job centers and three mobility job centers throughout the country.
