PM Confident that Cambodia’s Economic Growth will be Better than the Forecast

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has expressed his strong commitment to continue the reopening of the country’s social and economic activities as the COVID-19 pandemic has been under control. He has mentioned that he was extremely proud of the Kingdom’s success in the fight against COVID-19. It is a matter of pride that more than 14 million Cambodians have been vaccinated, despite fears that the vaccine may kill them.

While presiding over the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge Stung Trang-Kroch Chhmar this morning, Cambodia’s premier has mentioned that he is confident that the reopening will not have a setback, adding that Cambodia’s economic growth in 2021 may increase after Cambodia reopens the country. And as long as the health safety rules must be strictly implemented. The PM estimated that Cambodia’s economic growth this year could reach around 3 percent and next year around 5 percent.

The PM has stated that as the leader of the nation, he could not allow the people to die without putting in place some necessary measures, despite criticism. He believes that if the government will continue to carry out well the preventive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be a surefire effect that the national economic growth will be better than the previous forecast.

He has also mentioned how he appreciated the growth in the agriculture sector and hoped that tourism services will recover in these last two months as well.
